CHAI CHILLI OIL
The Chai & Chilli debut You Didn’t Know You Needed.
Personally, I can’t get enough spice when I cook. I love adding fresh chillies to pretty much EVERY dish I make, so it’s no surprise that a chai chilli oil would be precisely up my alley. Easy to make (and incorporating our fabulous Calmer Chai Sprinkles & Chai Baking Spice) this chai chilli oil will impress even those who shy away from heat. Infused with Cinnamon and Star Anise, we are convinced that chai and chilli never tasted so good.
Also, feel free to get playful with this recipe! Throw in some Nutmeg, or Fennel…or perhaps some Clove and Cardamom to really capture that spicy chai flavour! Have fun and let the fire get ignited inside you!
Ingredients:
- ½ Cup Chilli Flakes
- ¼ Cup Sesame Seeds
- 1 Tbsp of Chai Sprinkles
- 1 tsp of Chai Baking Spice
- 2 Tbsp of Coconut Sugar (or Rice Malt Syrup)
- 1 Tbsp of Salt
- 1 tsp of Freshly Ground Pepper
- 4 Cloves of Minced Garlic (or more if you like it garlic-y)
- 2 Tbsp of Minced Ginger
- 1 Cinnamon Stick
- 2 Star Anise
- 1 Cup of Neutral Oil (vegetable, safflower, sunflower, avocado, grapeseed, peanut)
Method:
- Add all of the ingredients (except the oil) into a heatproof bowl.
- In a small pot, heat your oil over low/medium heat*.
- Carefully pour the hot oil over the ingredients and allow to sizzle for a few minutes.
- Gently stir and then cool slightly before enjoying!
Place into an airtight container or glass jar and store in the fridge for up to 2-3 weeks (if it can last that long in your house!) Enjoyed on dumplings, salads, avocado toast…you name it! Try it with our Vegan Duck Salad, or on top of our Spiced Chickpea Salad.
Note: Make sure the oil is hot enough when you pour over, otherwise it won’t incorporate well with the other ingredients (it should sizzle when you pour it!)
We really hope you enjoy this spicy new condiment and please let us know if you decide to make it for yourself.
Love,
The Calmer Chai Crew
