OUR WORK FROM HOME TIPS

At Calmer Sutra Tea, we are lucky enough to be able to continue to carry out our roles during this uncertain time from our homes. But we know that it can be a challenging and fickle process for many, especially for those that are used to being out and about on your feet all day. So, we have compiled a list of things to make this WFH life a little more peaceful and a little more trouble-free!

1. BE EASY ON YOURSELF

This may be a huge transition for you and it’s ok for you to be feeling all kinds of emotions. Disarray, loneliness, stressed, frustrated. Or you could be feeling super productive and energised. This is all ok! Please be kind to yourself.

2. CREATE YOUR SPACE

Spend some time setting up a designated “office space”. It doesn’t need to be fancy- it just needs to contain all of your work-related items. This can help to avoid having to grab your laptop charger from your bedroom…..snuggling your cat…..then convincing yourself that it would be rude not to have a quick nap with said cat.

If you have this space set up in a separate room and have others in your home, try a simple Do Not Disturb sign to limit distractions.

3. TAKE DESIGNATED BREAKS AWAY FROM YOUR WORKSPACE

Schedule your breaks eg. 15 minutes mid-morning, 30 minutes at lunch and 15 minutes mid-afternoon. Make a cuppa, take it outside if you’re lucky enough or find a spot of sun shining through your window. Sit on the ground if you can. At lunchtime take a 20-minute walk or roll out your yoga mat for a quick stretch. This may help to re-energise and revitalise all those creative juices that become distant memories throughout the day.

4. GET COMFY

Settle in, we may be here a while so please make sure your chair is right for you. Check-in with your posture regularly. If your space permits, you could try putting your laptop up high and standing for the second half of the day. Or try an exercise ball. You know what does and doesn’t work for you. Look after that body, it does a lot for you.

5. COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE

On all levels! If you’re wondering about something, considering the relevance or questioning whether your colleague would want to know - just go ahead and share it. You can’t rely on bouncing off one another at your impromptu hallway meetings so just get it out, send it off.

6. LEADERSHIP

If you’re a manager or lead a team in any way make sure you outline clear expectations for your staff. This will drive productivity and lend a strong sense of purpose for each individual.

7. TAKE TIME FOR A CHAT

If your usual workplace culture includes candid conversations about current topics, reality TV and animal videos, then keep it up. You can still make each other laugh and share personal anecdotes. This will help to keep connected with one another and lessen the blow of isolation. You never know the power of a meme- it could be just what that person needs at that moment.

8. LAST BUT NOT LEAST
